Rachelle Dekker wrote in her Seer Series* that life is a series of forgetting and remembering.
Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of forgetting.
I could blame it on the upper respiratory infection or the antibiotics or the fact that I’ve been just about as antisocial as one can be for the last seven days. (Illness does that to a person…sends everyone else running so they don’t catch what you have.)
It’s funny because I’m a natural introvert. I need time alone to re-energize. But days upon days of being alone leaves me feeling, well, lonely.
And grumpy.
And it’s hard to remember that there is more to this life than lying in bed without anyone to talk to.
So what do I do when I feel emotionally crummy? I try to fix it. I throw myself into Bible reading and prayer and hope it all goes away quickly. Instead, I just get more frustrated.
This morning I opened my journal for the first time in a week to write, and dumped an honest truth before the Lord: I just don’t want to. I don’t know where to read in the Bible anymore, so I just don’t want to. Or I’ve tried, but I’ve ended up angry because I don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere.
In an effort to at least read something, I reached for one of my older Bibles with a lot of underlines and notes and some well pressed pages. I figured even if I didn’t read entire chapters, I could read over what I’d marked in previous reads and find some rest for my soul there.
In Isaiah, my heart finally responded: “You are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you” (41:13).
Life happens. People get sick and busy. We have seasons of loneliness and not-enough-ness and wanting to move past this. But it’s in these places we most need to remember:
Remember that we are dearly loved.
Remember that God is present.
Remember that He is Healer and Friend.
Simply remember Jesus…
He is Lord and Love and Life.
He is the beginning, middle, and end.
We don’t have to fix ourselves. All we need to do is accept a big dose of grace, grab His hand and keep….I was going to say keep moving, but some days we don’t even need to do that. Just keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus can be enough.
If you’re struggling to remember who you are and who Jesus is, press a little closer. Don’t try to fix it. Just allow the Lord to remind you of the truth and sit in His presence.
Live in His love!
